Mesotherapy
How is Mesotherapy Used to Dissolve Cellulite?
A description of mesotherapy, also known as Lipodissolve, is an intravenous procedure that is used to dissolve cellulite.
Mesotherapy is similar to acupuncture as it involves inserting
very fine needles beneath the skin. However in this case these needles
are not stimulating trigger points to relieve pain or achieve relaxation,
they are simply being used to disturb and soften hard deposits of cellulite
beneath the skin. Each needle also contains a small amount of a patented
homeopathic substance known as Mesoderm. As is true to the principle of “like repels like” in
homeopathy, mesoderm is a distillation of toxins similar to those found
in cellulite deposits. The idea is that a small amount of injected mesoderm
will trigger the body to eliminate all of the cellulite.
Mesotherapy is not a new treatment. It was original invented in 1952 by Frenchman Dr Michel Pistor and used to treat rheumatism, sports injuries, infectious diseases and vascular injuries. The theory behind this treatment is that causing a small injury to the affected area increases blood flow to the area as well. This causes an increase in cell respiration thus allowing the cells to eliminate wastes and toxins more efficiently from the area. As cellulite is thought to be a substance that is made up of waste materials that are trapped beneath the skin and fatty tissue you can see how this needlepoint treatment was easily adapted to the treatment of the condition.
Another benefit of mesotherapy is attributable to the way
the small needles break up hard layers of connective tissue and fatty
deposits. This
is thought to break down stubborn pockets of cellulite and soften
the skin in general. Also routinely prodding cellulite with needles
is thought to
interrupt of the body’s habit of continually accumulating toxins beneath the skin. The procedure is also perceived as prompting the body’s
lymph, circulatory and venous symptoms to quickly drain areas
that are affected by cellulite of toxins.
Practitioners of mesotherapy also remark on the ease of using the treatment anywhere on the body. It has been particularly successful for reducing jowls under the chin, bags under the eyes and fatty deposits anywhere on the face. It is also recommended for use on the abdomen, love handles, bat wings, belly fat and beneath the breast.
One of the drawbacks of mesotherapy is that it is difficult to administer over a large area. It is most effective for spot treatments for fatty deposits that may appear over the eyes or between the breast and the armpit. Mesotherapy works by
breaking down the fibrous tissue and making it more flexible. To really improve the appearance of cellulite, you'll need four to 10 treatments at least once a week until all of your cellulite is dissolved. After that you will need a yearly tune up treatment to maintain the results.
As non-invasive as it is, mesotherapy does have some reported side effects. For instance the area that is treated with the needles may feel tender or bruised for as long as two weeks. Some people also experience hives or a rash after the treatment but this is supposed to be a good sign as it is an indication that the skin is detoxifying.
Sometimes if the practitioner accidentally injects the needle into a muscle, a nodule or cyst may develop on top of the skin. Usually these types of skin bumps disappear on their own after two or three months.
Mesotherapy is not recommended for people who are scared of needles or who are skeptical of homeopathy. However, it should be stressed that although the procedure does use needles, it is not painful. The complete insertion and removal of all the needles usually only takes about ten minutes. There are no side effects to treatments with mesoderm and practitioners say that the difference in the skin texture is immediately measurable with the naked eye. The treatment is also considered to be permanent provided that the patient does not gain more than fifteen pounds.
Mesotherapy Costs
Mesotherapy is not cheap. A single treatment usually costs between $200 and $500. To make the expense worthwhile make sure you seek out a qualified plastic surgeon or cosmetic expert who is well trained in the art of applying mesotherapy so that you obtain optimum results on your investment. As most practitioners recommend that you have at least four treatments on one area to achieve any result at all, plan on spending at least $2000 on this type of cosmetic procedure.
