What is Cellulite? Why Cellulite Reduction Treatment?

If you are female and human than it is very likely like you will find evidence of cellulite on your body somewhere. Cellulite is that spongy stuff that appears just under the surface of the skin causing it to have a rippled or dimpled effect. Many people simply describe cellulite’s effect on the skin as looking like an orange peel or cottage cheese. So, women in general try procedures to lose cellulite. It appears in 90% of women and it can start as early as your teens. It is also as common in thin people as it is in overweight people.

Cellulite occurs when fat cells seem to detach or protrude from connective cell tissue beneath the skin. This connective tissue can be compared to a tightly woven net that begins to burst at the seams as cellulite forms. Cellulite can appear to be a surface disturbance, but it can also appear as deep dents and ridges in the skin.

Causes of Cellulites

There is a lot of speculation about the causes of cellulite and what it actually is. One of the most popular theories is that it is comprised of fat and fluid filled cells that have lost their elasticity due to toxin overload. This causes them to swell and protrude through breaks in connective tissue. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), individuals that are prone to cellulite may have been born with irregular connective tissue in the first place.

The problem with cellulite is that there is no known cure for it. Liposuction can actually make cellulite worse by removing the fatty deposits that support the body’s connective tissue. For cellulite removal, there is also no such thing as a cream that destroys cellulite although the use of a cream may hydrate the skin around the cellulite and make the skin surface in general appear smoother. The sad fact is that cellulite is a condition that is more to be managed, rather than cured. Anti-cellulite treatment is an effort in this direction.

As cellulite is thought to be caused by the accumulation of toxins that are trapped between the fatty tissues and connective tissues in the body, massage has always been traditionally used to try and draw those toxins out through the skin and lymph glands so that the cellulite appears less severe. One traditional massage oil recipe that is used for treating cellulite through manual massage is half olive oil, half apple cider vinegar.

Endermologie Treatment

As it seems possible to at least temporarily lessen the dimpled appearance of cellulite through kneading and rolling actions of manual massage, a company called Endermologie invented a machine that is specifically designed to massage areas affected by cellulite. This non-invasive mechanical roller massage therapy device is the only such machine that is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of cellulite.

Cellulite occurs when fat cells protrude from around the connective tissue that attaches skin to muscle-and tends to develop in almost 90% of women at some point. Cellulite treatments have generally met with mixed reactions: many people swear by creams and special diets, while some doctors claim that there is no cellulite treatment that actually produces scientific results. The latest craze in cellulite treatment-roller massage therapy (also known by the brand name Endermologie) is currently the only non-invasive device approved by the FDA specifically for cellulite treatment.

Introduced in the United States in 1996, the Endermologie device consists of a vacuuming device sandwiched between two moving rollers that travel across the skin. The rollers exert pressure on the skin and subcutaneous tissues, and the suction draws a fold of skin and fat into the vacuum space. This deep kneading and stretching of the body tissues is thought to increase blood and oxygen to the area, increase cell turn over and the elimination of toxins. The manufacturers also claim that mechanical roller massage therapy softens hard deposits of waste material in the skin allowing for increased cell respiration and a restoration of healthy connective tissue.

These machines are expensive and usually offered as a cosmetic treatment in a salon. Each roller massage therapy cellulite treatment lasts between 30 to 45 minutes and usually you need to attend several sessions before you skin shows any visible results. Another thing to keep in mind is that this type of mechanical massage therapy is not a cure for cellulite but rather a way of managing its appearance. Unfortunately, once you stop the treatments, bumps, dimples and ridges often reappear on the skin. So if you are going to use Endermologie machines as a way of managing the appearance of your cellulite, be prepared with plenty of money to finance your regimens which can cost as much as $50 for a single treatment. Endermologie is quite popular as a cellulite solution to eliminate cellulite.
